Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band formed in 1996 by Tuomas Holopainen, Empuu Vuorinen and former member Tarja Turunen. The band initially became popular in their country in 1997 with the debut album Angels Fall First, and then in the rest of Europe the following year with the album Oceanborn. Only in the early 2000s, the band gained worldwide fame with the albums Wishmaster and Century Child, and is currently one of the most successful metal bands in Europe, alongside the German band Rammstein.
